What it takes to become a professional therapist?
Melissa Rondeau is a state licensed professional therapist board certified in RI and FL. She has a M.A. in agency counseling, CAGS (certificate in advanced graduate studies) with several years of clinical supervision that included 3,000 hours of direct clinical experience diagnosing and treating clients. Melissa passed the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination. She successfully passed all requirements in 2003 to become a licensed professional therapist in RI. Each state has its own requirements that are similar to be licensed. She is also a Grief counselor certified by the American Red Cross and certified to treat trauma using evidence based clinical strategies. Melissa has focused many hours of research and study to break down trauma reactions like borderline personality disorder and co-dependency. A professional therapist is professionally trained to examine your past and use evidence based clinical strategies to recover from trauma that exists within deeper levels, while a life coach focuses on the present and motivates you to obtain goals.
Meet Melissa
Melissa Rondeau is a professionally licensed mental health counselor. She was raised in a home with a father who worked as a patrolman and detective. She grew up discussing crime scenes investigation and dreamed to work at the FBI as a criminal profiler. At age 17 years old, she became a victim of a sexual assault that caused significant trauma. She went on to enter the reserve police academy and earned a BA in Criminal Justice. But the trauma symptoms continued to reappear and she lost confidence to apply for the FBI. Instead she embarked on an intensive journey to heal from the trauma and work directly with those interested in healing, recovery and growth. She earned a license in Mental Health Counseling with expertise in trauma. Melissa deeply understands trauma and how sexual crimes, can take away a person’s agency over their own body. Melissa currently holds licenses in Rhode Island and Florida. Her training program to come a mental health therapist was intensive lasting 8 years including clinical work specializing in trauma. She also earned an MBA. Melissa is trauma informed therapist. She is trained by the American Red Cross in crisis intervention and Emergency Grief Work. In 2003, Melissa was awarded by the State of Rhode Island for her crisis intervention work with families during the Station Nightclub Fire.
